Kusal Mendis was back in the hut after scoring 20 runs off 10 balls against Mumbai Indians

Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Kusal Mendis had a terrible ending to his innings with the bat against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh is hosting the game between the two teams.

Kusal Mendis, who had a forgettable outing with the gloves, walked out to bat at three for GT in the big chase of 229 runs. The keeper-batter looked in good touch as he played some breathtaking shots, and it seemed that he would make up for his poor keeping with the bat.

The batter started his innings on a brilliant note as he attacked Trent Boult and was acting as a great support to Sai Sudharsan, who has been going great guns with the bat. However, the day for him turned from bad to worse as he gifted his wicket in the crucial game.

On the second ball of the seventh over, Mitchell Santner bowled a length delivery just outside off, to which Kusal Mendis attempted to pull to deep mid-wicket. But things didn’t go the way he would’ve wanted as he stretched his back leg behind and demolished the stumps.

Mendis also fell flat on his back after trodding on the stumps as the matchup of bowling Mitchell Santner to him worked well. This was the fifth time in the T20s that the Sri Lankan batter got out to the New Zealand spinner.

Kusal Mendis was back in the hut after scoring 20 runs off 10 balls. The keeper-batter slammed one boundary and two sixes during his stay at the crease, batting with a strike rate of 200. With his wicket, GT lost their second wicket for 67 runs.

Earlier in the first innings, Rohit Sharma (81) shined with the bat for MI. He, along with Jonny Bairstow (47), added 84 runs for the opening partnership before Suryakumar Yadav (33) also played a valiant hand.

Tilak Varma (25) and Hardik Pandya (22*) also played their part as MI posted a massive total of 228 runs on the board. The winner of the game is all set to face Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 2 on Sunday (1st June) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
