IPL 2025 mega auction: CSK sign Khaleel Ahmed for 3.8 crores
Khaleel Ahmed took 17 wickets in IPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals.
Hailing from Rajasthan, Khaleel Ahmed is a left-arm pacer who has established himself as one of the rising seamers in the country.
Khaleel’s rise was meteoric. He made his domestic debut in February 2017 and in September 2018, he made his ODI debut. A T20I debut followed a couple of months later. And this was while he had played only one game in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Being a left-arm pacer with the ability to swing the ball and also use cutters effectively, Khaleel impressed the national selectors so much that they handed him ODI and T20I debuts without much IPL experience.
However, Khaleel failed to cement his place in the national side. In 11 ODIs, he’s taken 15 wickets at an average of 31.00 and in 18 T20Is, he’s snared 16 wickets at 35.12. His best figures for India are 3/13. The 26-year-old remains in the plans of the national selectors and could return to the side in the future.
Khaleel Ahmed sold to CSK for INR 3.8 crore
CSK purchased pacer Khaleel Ahmed for INR 3.8 crore in the mega auction after being involved in a bidding war with LSG.
Khaleel Ahmed previously in the IPL
Khaleel Ahmed was with Delhi Capitals in IPL 2016 and 2017 but didn’t play a single game. He made his debut in IPL 2018 for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
He had a breakthrough season in IPL 2019 as he took 19 wickets. After a couple of bad seasons, he was released by SRH and roped back by Delhi in the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 5.25 crore. He did well that year, picking up 16 wickets in 10 matches for DC.
He continued to perform ordinarily, snapping 26 wickets in 23 games in the last two seasons before being released by DC ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He had a poor economy of 9.39 in the last two seasons.
