IPL 2025 mega auction: PBKS win bidding war with GT to rope in Marco Jansen
Marco Jansen took one wicket for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.
South African all-rounder Marco Jansen has established himself as one of the finest all-rounders in the limited overs format. Initially starting his career as a batter, Jansen has evolved into one of the best new ball bowlers in the T20 format.
Jansen made his test debut during the iconic Boxing Day test against India in 2021, becoming the first player born in the 2000s to represent South Africa. He has scored 703 runs and taken 93 wickets in 86 T20 games across his career.
Punjab Kings buys Marco Jansen for INR 7 crore
PBKS acquired Marco Jansen in the mega auction for INR 7 crore, after winning a fierce bidding war with Gujarat Titans.
It was indeed Mumbai Indians, Jansen’s first team in the IPL, who bid for the pacer at his base price of INR 2 crore. Then PBKS set off on a tugging war with MI initially before GT came in at 2.8 crore. Both went all the way to INR 7 crore where PBKS finally manage to buy him.
PBKS will be Jansen’s third IPL franchise.
Marco Jansen previously in the IPL
Jansen began his Indian Premier League (IPL) journey with Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2021 with a salary of INR 20 lakh. Jansen made his debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), taking two wickets for 28 runs including the big wicket of Glenn Maxwell.
Jansen moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2022, for a salary of INR 4.2 crore. While getting limited opportunities in the league, he has taken 20 wickets in 21 games.
