Hardik Pandya has already missed one game this IPL for over-rate offence.

Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI), was fined for his team’s poor over-rate against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Saturday’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

In Match 9 of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj led the GT to an incredible 36-run victory over MI, causing the visitors suffer their second defeat of the season.

Hardik had already been suspended for an over-rate offense in MI’s IPL 2024 match against the Lucknow Super Giants, which prevented him from playing in the team’s season opener against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

In his absence, the five-time champions faltered, losing by four wickets to CSK after failing to muster a respectable score.

Hardik Pandya is given one demerit point and fined INR 12 lakhs

Now, the MI captain Hardik Pandya, has been fined for his team’s slow over-rate against GT in Saturday’s IPL encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

“Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 9 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. As this was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses, Pandya was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the IPL statement read.

This is the first time in IPL 2025 that a captain has received a slow over-rate fine.

Talking about the match, GT were put in to bat first and scored 196/8 thanks to Sai Sudharsan’s 63 off just 41 balls. Later, Siraj was skilled at his scrambling seam deliveries, while pacer Prasidh Krishna demonstrated his ability to take wickets with slower balls. Together, the two took two wickets each to help GT limit MI to 160/6 in their 20 overs to start the IPL 2025.

MI, currently placed ninth in the standings with no wins, will next take on defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.
