Riyan Parag secured his first win as RR captain against CSK.
On Sunday, March 30, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag was fined INR 12 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati.
After suffering back-to-back defeats against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), RR delivered a clinical performance against CSK to register their first win of the ongoing tournament.
Batting first, the franchise was powered by Nitish Rana’s fluent 81 and set up a competitive total of 182. Captain Riyan Parag provided solid support with a 37-run knock.
In the bowling department, Jofra Archer finally found his rhythm, dismissing the dangerous Rachin Ravindra and finishing with impressive figures of 3/13 in three overs.
Ruturaj Gaikwad held one end with a solid 63 off 44 balls; however, he found no support from the other end in a six-run defeat.

Notably, this was the second slow over-rate penalty in IPL 2025, following Hardik Pandya’s fine after Mumbai Indians’ match against Gujarat Titans on Saturday.
Thankfully for Parag, unlike before, the latest offence will not result in a ban for the captain as the IPL has tweaked the rules. Now, such offences only lead to fines, demerit points and in-game field restrictions. Notably, more demerit points would result in the captains getting suspended.
RR will now face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in an away fixture at Mullanpur. The franchise will also be sweating on Sanju Samson’s injury update and his availability as wicket-keeper for the next game.
Wanindu Hasaranga will also play an important role in the fixture, considering the long boundaries at the venue. The Sri Lankan all-rounder picked up four crucial wickets – Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, Shivam Dube, and Vijay Shankar in a key win.
