Sunil Narine missed the match against RR due to illness.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will face Mumbai Indians (MI) in their third match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Monday, March 31.

The franchise missed Sunil Narine’s services in their last match against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. The star Caribbean spinner fell ill on the morning of March 26 and required medical attention but returned to the team hotel in the evening.

He was replaced by England all-rounder Moeen Ali in the playing 11, who starred with the ball, picking up 2/23 in his four-over spell. However, his batting performance was disappointing as he managed just five runs off 12 balls while opening the innings.

According to recent reports from ESPNcricinfo, Sunil Narine has returned to training and is expected to be available for selection for KKR’s next game against MI on Monday evening at the Wankhede Stadium.

His return likely means Moeen Ali will be left out of the playing XI. Narine was KKR’s second-highest scorer in the season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), scoring 44 off 26 balls. With the ball, he picked up the wicket of Devdutt Padikkal, conceding 27 runs in his spell.

Earlier, Moeen expressed his readiness for the opportunity to make his debut with his new franchise – KKR.

Moeen said, “I’ve been practising well, and I just try to be ready all the time. I got told this morning that Sunny [Narine] was not well and to just be ready whenever. Obviously, hard to replace Sunny but I felt like I did a nice job of it.

The upcoming match will also be the first IPL 2025 game at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Having lost their first two matches, MI will be eager to get their season back on track at home.
