Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya wrote an emotional message for his brother Hardik Pandya after the India T20I vice-captain returned home after winning ICC T20 World Cup 2024. India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final to lift the prestigious ICC trophy on June 29 in Barbados.

After defeating South Africa by seven runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 grand finale, the Indian cricket team ended their 11-year ICC title drought. The Men in Blue also won the T20 World Cup after a span of 17 years.

India’s vice-captain Hardik played a huge role in his side’s road to glory in the tournament. In eight matches, the all-rounder picked 11 wickets with the ball and scored 144 runs with the bat. Hardik was the third-highest wicket taker of Men in Blue after Arshdeep Singh (17) and Player of the Tournament Jasprit Bumrah (15).

Even in the final, Hardik bowled three crucial overs, in which he dismissed Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada. The Indian all-rounder also defended 16 runs in the final over of the chase. After the match, Hardik went very emotional and shed tears on the pitch.

I couldn’t be more emotional with my brother: Krunal Pandya

Following Hardik’s return to home after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, discarded Indian all-rounder and Hardik’s brother, Krunal shared a heartfelt note in an Instagram post, where he told how emotional moments these last few days have been for him seeing his younger brother Hardik lift the T20 World Cup 2024.

“It’s almost been a decade since Hardik and I started playing professional cricket. And the last few days have been like a fairy tale that we’ve dreamt off. Like every countryman I’ve lived this through our teams heroics and I couldn’t be more emotional with my brother being at the heart of it,” wrote Krunal in his Instagram post.

Last six months have been the toughest for Hardik: Krunal

Krunal further recalled Hardik’s struggle in the last six months, where he was booed by fans and faced severe criticism after replacing Rohit Sharma as the Mumbai Indians captain for the Indian Premier League 2024.

Elder Pandya praised his younger brother for passing through that toughest phase of life with a smile and working hard to lift the T20 World Cup 2024 for India.

“The last six months have been the toughest for Hardik. He simply didn’t deserve what he went through, and as a brother, I felt very, very bad for him. From booing, to people saying all kinds of nasty things, at the end of the day, we all forgot that he is just a human being who also has emotions,” Krunal wrote

He somehow passed through all of this with a smile, though I know how hard it was for him to put on a smile. He kept working hard and focusing on what he needed to do to get the World Cup since that was his ultimate objective,” Krunal added.

From the age six, it’s playing for the country: Elder Pandya

Elder Pandya also shared that Hardik’s dream of playing for the country and winning the World Cup started when he was six years old. Krunal further wrote that in the short span of his younger brother’s career, Hardik has achieved a huge thing, which is unbelievable.

“He has now played his heart out to realise India’s long standing dream – And nothing has ever meant to him more. From the age of 6 – It’s playing for the country and winning the World Cup that’s been the dream,” Krunal wrote.

I just want to remind people that what Hardik has done in such a short span in his career is unbelievable. His efforts for the national team have never been compromised. Every time, at every stage of Hardik’s life, people have written him off, and that has only motivated him to come back even stronger,” Krunal further wrote.

The all-rounder Krunal added that, for his younger brother, it’s all about country first. “For Hardik, it has always been country first, and it will always be that way. For a young boy coming from Baroda, there can be no bigger achievement than helping his team win the World Cup.”
