Mumbai Indians have played four Qualifier 2 matches in the IPL so far.

Mumbai Indians (MI) are among the oldest franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), who have been part of the tournament since the inaugural edition in 2008. They are also one of the most successful sides in the history of the tournament.

MI are the joint-most successful team in the history of the IPL with five titles to their name. They share the record with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who have also won an equal number of trophies. MI have made it to the playoffs in 11 editions across 18 seasons, including the ongoing IPL 2025.

The Hardik Pandya-led side finished in the fourth spot in the points table in IPL 2025 to reach the playoffs. After crushing Gujarat Titans (GT) by 20 runs in the Qualifier 1, they will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025, where the winners will meet Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final.

MI have a good experience of playoffs in the IPL. Moreover, they have also played Qualifier 2 games on four occasions during the previous editions of the tournament. On that note, let’s look at MI’s record in the Eliminator of the IPL.

In IPL 2011, MI defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Eliminator clash by four wickets. Later in the Qualifier 2 match, they lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). With Chris Gayle’s stunning 89-run knock, RCB posted 185/4 in the first innings.

Later, MI could only reach 142/8 in the second innings, losing the clash by a huge margin of 43 runs. Opener Sachin Tendulkar scored a good knock of 40 runs, however, other batters failed to take charge of the chase. For RCB, Daniel Vettori hunted three wickets, while Sreenath Aravind and JS Mohammad picked up two wickets each to crush MI batters.

2013 – Won by four wickets vs RR

In the 2013 season, MI lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Qualifier 1 by 48 runs. Hence, they faced Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Qualifier 2. MI won the match by four wickets.

RR could only add 165/6 in the first innings with a 43-run knock by Rahul Dravid. Later, opener Dwayne Smith (60) smacked a wonderful half-century to power MI to victory.
