Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim announces his retirement from international cricket
Imad Wasim represented Pakistan in 121 international matches across formats.
There has been a lot happening in the Pakistan cricket team since their dismissal performance in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Pakistan, who were among the favorites to qualify for the semis, finished with only four wins in the entire tournament. Babar Azam resigned from the captaincy in all three formats, while the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fired the entire selection committee and made some big changes in the support staff.
The star all-rounder Imad Wasim has now decided to announce his retirement. On Friday, Imad Wasim, who has been out of the team for a long time now, announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. Imad took to his X handle (formerly known as Twitter) and made the statement.
Imad Wasim announces his international retirement; will continue playing international T20 Leagues
Imad Wasim made his international debut in May 2015 against Zimbabwe in a T20I match. His first ODI was against Sri Lanka two months later, in July. The all-rounder has played 55 ODIs, scored 986 runs, and taken 44 wickets. In T20Is, he played 66 matches, scored 486 runs, and also took 65 wickets with the ball. Imad wrote a long note on his X handle and thanked everyone.
He wrote, “In recent days I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket. I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years – it has truly been an honour to represent Pakistan.”
The all-rounder was part of the team that won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, beating India in the final. He also played in the 2019 World Cup and the 2021 T20 World Cup for Pakistan. But after 2020, he lost his place in ODIs. On the other hand, he played his last T20I match against New Zealand in April earlier this year. With not many chances for him in the team, he decided to retire, and he is looking to continue playing for T20 Leagues across the world.
