A total of 182 players were sold during the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction saw ten franchises splash INR 639.15 crores to buy a total of 182 players to complete their squads for the next season.

The two-day event made headlines in the cricket world with several players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal going for hefty prices.

Overseas players faced a more conservative market with big guns like Glenn Maxwell, Faf Du Plessis and Sam Curran facing massive pay cuts from their previous salaries.

This year, the new RTM rule had a major impact on auctions, with a few franchises using it wisely to drain others’ wallets. The Right-to-Match (RTM) card was reintroduced this year after it was last used during the mega auction in 2018.

In 2018, the rule allowed a team to use the RTM card to match the highest bid placed on a player who was part of their squad during the previous season. However, in this auction, the franchise that places the original bid had one more opportunity to raise the bid for the player even after the team with RTM card uses it.

Earlier, the IPL governing council allowed teams to retain up to a maximum of six players including direct retentions and RTM cards. Based on that, only a few RTM cards were available with the teams.

Several teams used the RTM card strategically while a few others looked less interested in taking advantage of the new rule.
