The WPL 2026 mega auction will take place on November 27 in Delhi.

The countdown for Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 mega auction has started with teams announcing their list of retained players on Thursday, November 6. The WPL 2026 mega auction is scheduled to take place on November 27 in Delhi and it is expected to be a blockbuster event with some of the big names set to go under hammer.

The WPL, which is growing with each season, has seen salary purse for each team getting increased by INR 3 crore to INR 15 crore for 2026 season as compared to the first-ever season in the 2023, where INR 12 crore was allotted to the teams. Ahead of the auction, all five teams were allowed to retain a maximum of five players in their squad. Out of these five players, a maximum of three capped Indian players and a maximum of two overseas players were allowed.

In case a franchise opted to retain five players, at least one of them had to be an uncapped Indian player. Moreover, teams which did not retain five players will have the option of Right to Match (RTM) during the auction.

A total of 17 players were retained by the five franchises with Mumbai Indians (MI) Women and Delhi Capitals Women being the two teams with five retentions. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women retained four players, while Gujarat Giants kept two stars. UP Warriorz surprised with just one retention, leaving out big names in Deepti Sharma and Alyssa Healy.

While MI Women and RCB Women retained their captains Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana respectively, DC Women parted ways with Meg Lanning. After retaining just one player, UP Warriorz have the maximum salary cap available for the WPL 2026 mega auction.

India World Cup-winning players like Deepti Sharma, Shree Charani, Renuka Thakur, Kranti Goud, Sneh Rana, Renuka Thakur, and Arundhati Reddy will be in focus at the WPL 2026 mega auction. Overseas players like Alyssa Healy and Laura Wolvaardt will be among the most sought-after players after their impressive batting shows in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
