'Rohit Sharma was scolding somebody,' inside details of India's flight from Barbados to Delhi after ICC T20 World Cup 2024 victory revealed
India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the grand finale of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados on June 29.
June 29 was an emotional and historic day for Indian cricket as the Rohit Sharma-led team defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados.
Rohit Sharma became the second Indian skipper after the legendary MS Dhoni to lift an ICC T20 world title. Under Rohit, the Men In Blue finally ended their 11-year wait for an ICC title and 17-year wait for the T20 title.
After winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title, veteran Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their T20I retirements. However, the trio will continue to play the other two formats. Rahul Dravid’s tenure as the Indian cricket team’s head coach came to an end on a memorable note.
India’s in-flight details revealed while returning from Barbados to New Delhi
After winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29, the Indian cricket team were struck in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, which forced the airport to be shut down.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah then arranged a special charter flight for all the squad and the media crew to bring them home safely. The flight departed on July 2 from Barbados and arrived at the New Delhi airport on July 4.
The Men in Blue reached Mumbai in the evening and had a roadshow from Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium, where the BCCI organised a felicitation ceremony.
After a month from India’s T20 World Cup triumph, some interesting revelations were made by a Star Sports producer who was travelling with the Indian squad on the charter flight from Barbados to Delhi.
The Star Sports producer said that nobody slept for more than six hours during the long flight as everyone was engrossed in the celebrations.
“On this flight, Barbados to Delhi, I think hardly anyone slept for more than six hours. That would have been the maximum. At no point was anyone quiet. Star Sports engineers were also part of the flight because theirs was cancelled and they were also accommodated. But there was a lot of interaction. I believe at one moment, Rahul Dravid came up to the economy section to figure out if there was a 4-seater because he wanted to sleep. He came there from the business class and slept there for some time,” the Star Sports producer revealed, as quoted by One Cricket.
The Star Sports producer further revealed that while he was sleeping, he heard Rohit Sharma jokingly scolding someone.
“I remember I was sleeping and I could suddenly hear Rohit scolding somebody. I saw and he was standing right there. But Rohit, in his style was scolding jokingly. After that, Hardik came, Rishabh came and they were all having discussions with the media. So obviously, there was a lot of chatter,” the producer revealed.
