India test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed that veteran cricketer KL Rahul will be playing the first test match against Bangladesh in Chennai. Rohit also talked about Rahul’s comeback to the test side and backed the 32-year-old to have a successful test career.

“There are a handful of people in world cricket who had a smooth ride. Handful of cricketers had no issues all their life, it was all good. Everyone has an up and down career. The best thing to do is to understand yourself, understand expectations from yourself and what do you need to bring to table for the team. The kind of quality KL Rahul has, everybody knows about him. The message to him from our side was we want him to play all the games and bring the best out of him. It’s our duty as well to bring the best out of him,” said Rohit in the pre-match press conference ahead of the first test against Bangladesh.

“It’s important to give him a clear message that what he expect from you. He has done well since comeback – scored a hundred against South Africa. He scored an 80 in the first Test against England in Hyderabad and unfortunately got injured and didn’t play afterwards,” Rohit added.

2. Rohit compares approaches of Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid

Rohit also highlighted the different approaches of head coach Gautam Gambhir and former coach Rahul Dravid. The 37-year-old said that he has a good working relationship with Gambhir and his newly appointed support staff.

“Obviously, Rahul bhai, Vikram Rathour (former batting coach), and Paras Mhambrey (former bowling coach) had a different approach, and it’s only natural for a new support staff to bring in fresh perspectives,” Rohit said.

“But from the matches we played in Sri Lanka with the new team, they seemed sensible and quick to understand the dynamics of the squad,” he added.

3. Bangladesh test series not dress rehearsal for Border-Gavaskar Trophy

During the press conference, Rohit was asked if the team views the Bangladesh test series as a rehearsal for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

Rohit stressed that every game is important for his side, and they want to win the Bangladesh test series. The Indian test and ODI skipper further said that they aren’t looking too far until the Australia test series.

“No dress rehearsal, Every game is important. Doesn’t matter where we play. We want to win, want to win this Test and the series. Not looking too far ahead. It’s nice to have everyone back and start the season on a high,” said Rohit.
