Rohit Sharma’s parents have only watched him play at stadiums on two occasions.

India test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma is among the most iconic players to play for the national side from Mumbai. The right-handed batsman started his cricket career in Mumbai and developed into one of the best openers and a skipper for the national side.

Notably, Sharma also plays a lot of games at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. It is the home ground of his franchise team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Mumbai Indians (MI) as well. Sharma has represented the side since the 2013 season and is also part of the team in IPL 2025.

Interestingly, Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh and daughter Samaira are usually seen at the stadium during his matches. His wife always cheers for him from the stands during India’s matches and MI’s games in IPL. However, his parents have hardly been spotted inside the stadium.

Rohit Sharma reveals why his parents never watch his matches at stadium

During a chat with The Indian Express, the Indian opener revealed why his father Gurunath Sharma and mother Purnima Sharma never attend his matches at the stadium. He informed that they get too nervous watching him play at the stadium. Hence, they like to watch his games from home.

“Usually, they prefer watching matches from home because they get too nervous at stadiums. They don’t like leaving the house too much. When a stand with my name is inaugurated at the Wankhede Stadium, you have to come and sit in it,” Rohit Sharma said.

Interestingly, Rohit Sharma revealed that his parents have only visited the stadium on two occasions. They came to the stadium when he captained India for the first time against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in 2017. Recently, they came to the stadium when a stand was named after their son.

Earlier this month, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) honoured Sharma with a stand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai due to his immense contribution to the national team over the years. The Indian skipper led the team to ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title last year and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Sharma has shown a wonderful form for MI in recent games in IPL 2025. He struggled at the start of the season and got out for low scores. However, he made a strong comeback in the recent two games against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He slammed consecutive fifties in both games to power MI to comfortable victories during the chase.
