Shaheen Afridi becomes the fastest pacer to pick up 100 ODI wickets
Shaheen Afridi has bowled a magnificent opening spell against Bangladesh.
Pakistan’s premier pace bowler Shaheen Afridi had a tremendous start against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 league round game. After losing four games in a row, Pakistan needed someone to stand up for the remainder of the tournament and aim for the top-four spot in the points table. Pakistan needs to win all their remaining matches to remain in the hunt for the ongoing tournament.
Shaheen Afridi had a wonderful opening spell against Bangladesh and picked up two early wickets in the powerplay. In the meantime, Shaheen Afridi has also become the fastest pacer in the world to pick up 100 wickets. Shaheen needed just one to get the record under his name. As soon as he dismissed opener Tanzid Hasan on duck in the first over of the game, he broke the record and became the quickest pacer to get 100 ODI wickets.
Record-breaking Shaheen Afridi
The left-arm quick is playing his 51st ODI, earlier, Mitchell Starc was the quickest pace bowler to pick up 100 ODI wickets. Starc took 52 matches to complete 100 ODI wickets in his career. Shaheen Afridi is also the fastest Pakistani player to pick up 100 ODI wickets. Shaheen overtook Saqlain Mushtaq, who took 53 ODIs to complete his 100 ODI wicket milestone. Mohammed Shami is India’s fastest to get 100 ODI wickets in just 56 matches.
Nepal’s leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichchane is the quickest player in the world to get 100 ODI wickets in just 42 ODIs. Afghanistan’s leg-spinner Rashid Khan is second in the tally with 44 ODI matches to pick up 100 ODI wickets. These two are the only bowlers in international cricket to take 100 ODI wickets in under 50 ODIs. Everyone apart from these two have taken above 50 ODI games to complete the 100 ODI wickets milestone.
Shaheen Afridi has picked up two wickets in his opening spell and bowled five overs. Shaheen has conceded 10 runs with a maiden over under his name. Shaheen got Tanzid Hasan on a duck in the first over. And then he got Najmul Hossain Shanto caught in the forward short leg by Usama Mir on his second over. Shaheen Afridi has picked up 105 test wickets in 27 test matches and 64 wickets in 52 T20I games.
