Sunil Gavaskar wants Virat Kohli to back his strengths and play shots ahead of the final against South Africa.
Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has given a piece of advice to India opener Virat Kohli ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 29.
In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian side had a dream run until the final. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Men in Blue have won all their completed games so far.
Rohit Sharma has taken the national side to three ICC finals in a span of 12 months, but they lost the previous two to Australia. However, the biggest concern for Rohit and India ahead of the high-voltage final against the Aiden Markram-led South Africa will be star batter Kohli’s poor form.
He is losing body balance: Sunil Gavaskar on Virat Kohli’s poor form in T20 World Cup 2024
After winning the Orange Cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, many cricket pundits believed that Kohli would have a dream run with the bat in the T20 World Cup 2024 also.
Shockingly, in seven games so far, Kohli has failed to register a single fifty in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian opener has scored just 75 runs at a poor average of 10.71.
Gavaskar has observed an error with Kohli’s batting in this tournament. Gavaskar stated that Kohli’s head shakes a bit when he is moving in the crease, and because of this, he loses his balance. The legendary batsman advised Kohli to stay calm and back his strengths to play shots.
“When he starts to move around, the head shakes as well. And therefore, it is not helping him. This is something you see in slow-mo as well. All that he needs to do is chill a bit and play that big hand and will give India the big score.” Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.
“Like I keep saying, what Kohli has to do is just play the shots that he plays with the same body balance. When he is looking to power the ball away, then he is losing his body balance and he misses the ball. So, all that needs to do is, that six he hit (off Reece Topley). It was brilliant balance and he just flicked the ball with the bottom hand. That’s all he has to do.” Gavaskar added.
