TATA retain IPL title sponsorship rights for the next five years

TATA retain Indian Premier League (IPL) sponsorship rights.
The TATA group has successfully used the right to match card to retain Indian Premier League (IPL) title sponsorship rights for the next five years. TATA will be associated with IPL for next five years till 2028. Aditya Birla Group placed the highest bid for the next five year cycle from 2024-28 and TATA Group successfully matched Aditya Birla Group’s 500 Crore INR deal for every year.
Aditya Birla Group placed 2500 Crore INR bid for the next five year. TATA Group earlier paid 365 Crore INR per season when they came in as the replacement of VIVO due to conflict between India and China. BCCI didn’t consider any bid from Chinese companies due to the ongoing conflict between the two countries. TATA paid 730 Crore INR for the previous two seasons.
TATA became part of IPL in 2022
Aditya Birla Group looked favourites to win the bidding war but the IPL rule to allow the previous holders of the sponsorship to be associated with the league by using the Right to Match card. Aditya Birla Group placed a bid of 2500 Crore INR for the next five years, TATA played their cards nicely and they matches the price.
VIVO secured the IPL title sponsorship rights in 2018, they paid 2199 Crore INR for the five IPL seasons from 2018 to 2023. BCCI had to part ways with VIVO after IPL 2021. TATA group had to cover the remaining value of the VIVO’s contract as well. BCCI opened the tender on December 12 2023 and the final deadline was 12th January, 2024.
Indian Premier League governing council is yet to decide on the final schedule of the upcoming IPL 2024. It is likely that the IPL 2024 will begin at the end of March. India will vote for the 18th Lok Sabha during March, April and May. IPL Governing council and BCCI will wait for the Election Commission’s poll date announcement before finalising the schedule.
