"Afghanistan deserved it.." Twitter erupts as Afghanistan knock England out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to keep their semi-final hopes alive

Afghanistan defeated England by eight runs in a cracking encounter in Lahore.
Afghanistan faced off against England in the eighth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. It was their second match in Group B and a very important one for both sides. Afghans won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 325 runs in their 50 overs for the loss of seven wickets.
Ibrahim Zadran was the highest scorer of the innings and played a standout innings for Afghanistan. He scored 177 runs in 146 balls with 12 fours and six sixes during his innings. It also has been registered as the highest individual score in the Champions Trophy’s history as well as the highest ODI score by an Afghanistan batter.
Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi chipped in with 40 runs off 67 deliveries, while all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai scored 41 runs off 31 deliveries, and Mohammad Nabi scored 40 runs off 24 deliveries.
Jofra Archer was the highest wicket-taker for England with three wickets in his 10-over spell. Liam Livingstone scalped two wickets. Jamie Overton and Adil Rashid picked up one wicket each. The game turned out to be a nail-biter and went down the wire till the final over.
Despite Joe Root scoring an ODI hundred after six years and taking his side almost home, Afghanistan secured a historic victory by eight runs and with one ball to spare in the innings. They have kept their hopes of qualifying for the semi-final alive.

The Englishmen were bowled out for 317 runs in 49.5 overs. Joe Root was the highest scorer for England with 120 runs off 111 deliveries. Azmatullah Omarzai was the standout bowler for Afghanistan, as he scalped five wickets in quota of 9.5 overs and helped his team register the historic victory.
He picked up the final wicket of England by dismissing Adil Rashid. Omarzai bowled a slower delivery on the good length to Rashid, and he had to go for the big shot. However, Rashid did not time the ball properly, and it went straight into the hands of Ibrahim Zadran stationed at long-off, who earlier set the match for his team with the bat.
Afghanistan earlier defeated England in the ODI World Cup 2023 and now have defeated them in the Champions Trophy as well, showing the world that they have become a giant killer in the cricketing circuit.
Twitter has now erupted with fans talking about the victory of the Afghans against England. England now have no chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of the competition given that they have lost their first two group-stage fixtures.
