Virat Kohli completed 80 centuries in international cricket with his 50th ODI ton.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly lauded Virat Kohli for breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most ODI hundreds. Kohli went past Tendulkar’s 49 ODI tons and scored his 50th in the first semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 between India and New Zealand in Mumbai.

Kohli smashed 117 runs with nine fours and two sixes as India posted 397/4 after winning the toss and choose to bat first. Rohit Sharma with 47 and Shubman Gill with 80* gave India a flying start, while Kohli was well supported by Shreyas Iyer, who made 105 in 70 balls with 8 sixes, and KL Rahul, who made 39* in 20 balls.

In response, despite Daryl Mitchell’s 134 and Kane Williamson’s 69, New Zealand only managed 327 runs. For India, Mohammad Shami was the star, picking his career-best 7/57 and also the best bowling figures by an Indian in ODIs.

Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief Sourav Ganguly told ANI that he doesn't have a word to describe Virat's record.

"I don't know if anyone can break such a record and Virat Kohli has not finished playing yet. He is only 35 and he will play more for India. It is a monumental achievement. I have played with Sachin all the time when he got to 49, we thought how big is that and he (Kohli) passed it. My congratulations to him also on the way he batted in this World Cup," Ganguly told ANI.

India have won all 10 of their matches in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 thus far.

Sourav Ganguly terms India’s performance in the World Cup as ‘unreal and fantastic’

India will now face the winners of the second semi-final between South Africa and Australia, which is being played in Kolkata on November 16. The finals of the CWC 2023 will be played in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, November 19.

Ganguly also praised Indian team’s performance in the World Cup.

He said, "It has been fascinating how the team has played in this World Cup. It is just unreal and fantastic to watch. Good wishes to every member of the team for the final match.”
