Virat Kohli has become the player with the most fifty-plus scores at home.

Virat Kohli has started the ODI series against South Africa in a similar fashion to the way he left off in Australia. The former India captain smashed an astonishing century against the Proteas in the first ODI at Ranchi. Virat also built a phenomenal partnership with Rohit Sharma as the stalwarts gave an outstanding start to India’s innings.

Virat completed his half-century in just 48 balls, showing his intent to dominate the opposition from the beginning. This knock is particularly important for the 37-year-old, as speculations about his future in international cricket are not dying down.

The half-century against South Africa in Ranchi has helped Kohli break his idol, Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most fifty-plus scores at home in One-Day Internationals. Sachin had 58 fifty plus scores to his name in One-Day International at home.

Virat has dwarfed Sachin’s record as he now has the most number of fifty-plus scores for India in ODIs. Scoring his 59th fifty-plus score, Kohli has re-established his importance in the Indian ODI setup. The former India captain looks set to pursue his place in the squad for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup.
