Virat Kohli averaged 24.52 in test cricket in 2024.

The seventh game of Delhi’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 campaign against Railways started on Thursday, January 30, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The game marked Virat Kohli‘s return to the Ranji Trophy for the first time since November 2012. His comeback has sparked great excitement among local fans, with over 15,000 people in attendance for day 1 of the match.

Delhi bowlers bowled impressively to restrict Railways to 241 runs in their first innings. Navdeep Saini was the standout bowler for the hosts, taking three wickets, while Siddhant Sharma and Sumit Mathur chipped in with two wickets each.

A light-hearted moment occurred when Virat Kohli was fielding near the boundary line. Excited by his presence, the fans cheered him on loudly. However, Kohli playfully teased them, pretending he couldn’t hear them and asking them to cheer louder than the other section of crowd.

At stumps, Delhi were 35/1 in reply to Railways’ 241 in the first innings. Sanat Sangwan (8) and Yash Dhull (17*) will resume the innings for Delhi on Friday, aiming to guide their team to a substantial lead. Fans will have to wait until tomorrow to see Kohli bat.

Earlier, during the first session, Kohli had a heartwarming moment when a fan ran halfway across the ground to touch his feet. When security caught the fan, Kohli kindly asked the officials not to hit him.

India’s next red ball assignment is due in June when they will tour England for five-match test series. Fans will hope that Kohli regains his form before the important tour.

Playing XI of both teams:

Railways: Anchit Yadav, Vivek Singh, Suraj Ahuja (c), M Saif, Upendra Yadav (wk), B Merai, Karn Sharma, Ayan Chaudhari, Himanshu Sangwan, Rahul Sharma and Kunal Yadav.
