Ravi Ashwin retired from international cricket in December 2024.

Former Indian cricketer Ravi Ashwin has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri award by the President of India, Shri Droupadi Murmu on Monday, April 28. Notably, Ashwin retired from international cricket last year. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Ashwin pulled the curtains down on his international cricket career.

The right-arm spinner’s last international game was against Australia in Sydney. The match took place in December 2024. He retired midway during the BGT 2024-25. The 38-year-old played 106 tests, 116 ODIs, and 65 T20Is for India.

The Government of India has awarded Ravi Ashwin with the Padma Shri for his remarkable contribution to Indian cricket. The video of the moment was shared by Indian cricket team on social media. They shared the video on their official accounts on social media. In the video, Ashwin collected the award from the President of India, Shri Droupadi Murmu. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were also present at the occasion.

Meanwhile, Ashwin is one of the best spin-bowling all-rounders to ever play for India. The off-spinner scalped 537 wickets across 200 innings in tests. He also captured 156 wickets and 72 scalps in ODIs and T20Is respectively. The Tamil Nadu cricketer represented the national side in nuemrous games across all three formats. However, he was considered a test specialist towards the end of his career.

Although Ashwin has ended his international career, he continues to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is a member of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025. The franchise picked the veteran player for INR 9.75 crores during the auction. He was the second costliest player for the team at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
