Prithvi Shaw has scored 59 runs in two matches in Ranji Trophy 2024.
Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw suffered another huge setback as he was dropped from Mumbai’s squad for their next Ranji Trophy match due to disciplinary issues.
The 2018 U-19 World Cup-winning skipper has played five tests, six ODIs, and one T20I for India, the last of which was in 2021. Shaw was named Player of the Match for his brilliant century on his test debut against the West Indies in 2018.
However, the star cricketer couldn’t replicate his early success in international cricket. Apart from the loss of form, Shaw also has had non-cricketing issues and hasn’t been at his peak fitness in the past few years.
In the ongoing Ranji Trophy tournament, Shaw scored 7 and 12 against Baroda, and 1 and 39* against Maharashtra. He has been dropped for Mumbai’s next game against Tripura.
Prithvi Shaw dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) released a media advisory on Monday regarding the Mumbai squad selection and Shaw’s name was missing.
The MCA release didn’t provide any notable reason for Prithvi Shaw’s absence. However, it has been reported that this axing is a tacit warning to the 24-year-old opener for his disciplinary issues.
It is learned that Shaw has been irregular in practice sessions as compared to other Mumbai cricketers, and has been skipping practice.
According to a senior MCA source, both the selectors and the team management, including the skipper Ajinkya Rahane and the coach, were in favour of leaving Prithvi Shaw for one match. Left-handed opener Akhil Herwadkar has replaced Shaw in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad.
Further, according to a report in Cricbuzz, the Mumbai selectors and management feel Shaw has become “overweight” and has been neglecting his fitness.
