The European Cup, which preceded the UEFA Champions League, was a straight-up knockout tournament that began in 1955. In the first five seasons, the participating teams were chosen by the French football magazine L’Equipe.

Spanish teams have won the competition an incredible 20 times, making them the indisputable kings. English teams rank second, having won the championship 14 times, while Italian teams have won the competition 12 times.

10. Porto (2)

Porto, also established as FC Porto or just Porto, are a professional sports team from Portugal. It was founded in 1893 and is based in the city of Porto.

The Portuguese giants have won two UEFA Champions League titles (in 1987 and 2004), two UEFA Europa League titles (in 2003 and 2011), one UEFA Super Cup, and two Intercontinental Cups, for a total of seven international tournaments. However, Chelsea, SL Benfica and Nottingham Forest are two other teams that have won the UEFA Champions League title twice.

Juventus Football Club, commonly regarded as Juventus or Juve, are a professional football club founded in 1897 and based in Turin, Piedmont, Italy, that participates in Serie A, the top division of Italian football. Football Club Internazionale Milano, generally known as Inter or Inter, and known as Inter Milan outside of Italy, was founded in 1908 and is an Italian professional football club based in Milan, Lombardy.

In 1964 and 1965, Inter won the Champions League twice back-to-back and then again in 2010. With the victory, they became the first club in Itlay ever to win triple domestic titles (Scudetto, Coppa Italia, and Serie A). However, The club won three UEFA Cups, two Intercontinental Cups, and one FIFA Club World Cup.

7. Manchester United (3)

The Manchester United Football Club was established in 1878 in Old Trafford, England. The Red Devils have won the Champions League three times. The first one occurred in the 1967–1968 season when United defeated Benfica 4-0 at Wembley Stadium.

For the second time, they beat Bayern Munich to win the UEFA Champions League in 1999. Man United’s 2008 victory over Chelsea was their third and last Champions League title.

In the European Cup/Champions League, Manchester United have reached the final five times, losing twice. In 1968, 1999, 2008, 2009, and 2011.

Their first three trips to the finals all ended in victories, with both of their defeats coming at the hands of Barcelona in 2009 and 2011.

Ajax Amsterdam are an Amsterdam-based Dutch professional football team that competes in the Eredivisie, the first flight of Dutch football.

It is one of Europe’s most successful football clubs. They have won the Champions League 4 times and are one of three clubs to have done so three times in a row (1971,1972,1973). Ajax won their fourth European Cup after beating Milan 1-0 in the 1995 UEFA Champions League final.

FC Barcelona are a professional football team from Spain that was established in Barcelona in 1899. The Catalan club have won the UEFA Champions League five times. 1992, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2015. As the club is one of Spain’s most successful sports teams. However, among all teams on the continent, they are in fifth place as the highest Champions League winners.

4. FC Bayern Munich (6)

Founded in 1900, FC Bayern Munich are a football team with its headquarters in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Since the 1960s, Bayern have participated in UEFA tournaments and become one of Europe’s most prosperous teams. They won eight significant European trophies, including six Champions Cup/Champions League crowns. Bayern Munich’s six UEFA Champions League victories have further proved their superiority in the Bundesliga.

With six titles won in 2020, they have advanced to eleven European Cup/UEFA Champions League finals. However, being without a doubt Germany’s most successful club winning the Champions League in 2019-20, 2012-13, 2000-01, 1975-76, 1974-75 and 1973-74.

3. Liverpool (6)

Liverpool Football Club was formed in 1892 and is a professional football club in Liverpool, England. It is one of five clubs with five or more Champions League championships. Since 1964, the club has won fourteen European and international trophies, more than any other British team, including six UEFA Champions League titles in 1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, 2005, and 2019.

AC Milan have won seven times in the Champions League (the first in 1963 and the last in 2007). In 1955, Milan was the first team from Italy to get into the European Cup. AC Milan have won the Champions League more than any other team from Italy. Milan is the only club with the second most Champions League trophies.

They have been a football club for 120 years, and their most recent Champions League win was against Liverpool in Greece in 2007. However, In their history, AC Milan are second only to Real Madrid in the number of times they have won the Champions League.

The club won their championships in 1963, 1968, 1989, 1990,  1994,  2003, and 2007.

1. Real Madrid (15)

The most recent Champions League winners are Real Madrid. They have dominated domestically and on the continent, taking home 15 European Cups. Real Madrid.are considered as the greatest team to ever compete in the European Cup.

They defeated Borussia Dortmund in 2024, becoming the champions for the 2023-24. The club won the titles in the years 1955–1956, 1956–1957, 1957–58, 1958–59, 1959–60, 1965–66, 1997–1998, 1999–2000, 2001–2002, 2013–14, 2015–16, 2016–17, 2017–18, 2021–2022 and 2023-24.
