Ratings: Boris Singh dampens ATK Mohun Bagan's spirits in Jamshedpur FC's victory
The Mariners lost out to the rampant Men of Steel who rode their resurgent carriage of form once again.
ATK Mohun Bagan lost 3-0 to a strong Jamshedpur FC side at the EMS Corporation Stadium on Friday in the Hero Super Cup 2023. The Men of Steel started off on a positive note as Ritwik Das tested Vishal Kaith in the eighth minute. Aidy Boothroyd's men finally got their breakthrough a little before the half-hour mark as Boris Singh slid in at the far post to turn in Rafael Crivellaro's ball. The explosive winger made it a brace for the evening as he repeated the move but this time Ritwik was the provider.
After the break, the Mariners had to weather more attacks, but were unable to convert their own chances. Despite having over 60% possession, Juan Ferrando's side had 10 shots with only two on target in comparison to Jamshedpur FC's 13 shots with seven on target. Harry Sawyer finished off the game in stoppage time with his scrappy finish off Kaith's save of an Ishan Pandita shot.
Here are the player ratings for the night.
Jamshedpur FC
Rehenesh T.P. - 6.5
Barely faced as much action between the posts as his rival number one as ATK Mohun Bagan had only two shots on goal.
Laldinliana Renthlei - 7
The tough-tackler kept Liston Colaco in check as he dropped back in time often and finished the 90 minutes with the clean-sheet-cherry on top.
Eli Sabia - 7
Marshalled the defence in a resolute manner as he even dribbled out of danger effectively, quite a few times.
Pratik Chaudhari - 7
Pratik made an unconventional impact as a ball-playing centre-back alongside his Brazilian partner. Attempted and completed three clearances to ward off any danger to the otherwise compact Jamshedpur FC defence.
Ricky Lallawmawma - 6.5
Ricky was given the license to venture forward in contrast to his compatriot on the other flank and left Manvir Singh unmanned quite a bit.
Jitendra Singh - 6.5
Fantastic work-rate from the ‘class of U-17 FIFA World Cup 2017’ defensive midfielder. Played as an anchorman who also pitched in by carrying the ball up the pitch and helping in transitions.
Rafael Crivellaro - 7
The Brazilian midfielder racked up the game with his consistent creativity. Dribbled past Pritam Kotal and whipped in a cross to tee up Boris for the first goal. Gave way to Ishan Pandita in the 92nd minute.
Boris Singh Thangjam - 8.5
Kept threatening with his twisting runs down the right wing with a first-half brace for Jamshedpur FC. While his second was a simple tap-in from a well-identified run, he had to work harder to get his first goal past Kaith off Crivellaro’s ball. His hot-headed gameplay did make him end up in the book eventually and Boothroyd subbed him off for Seiminlen Doungel.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas - 7
Played a slightly deeper role among the front four as he constantly looked to release runners down the flanks.
Daniel Chima Chukwu - 6.5
Felt a niggle early on after Glan Martins fouled him from behind. Came back into the match continuing to play as the target man effortlessly, but was shown the yellow for stamping Carl McHugh. Went off for Harry Sawyer in the 74th minute.
Ritwik Das - 7.5
Picked the ball off a counter to test Kaith early on in the eighth minute with a strong rising shot. Went on to assist Boris for Jamshedpur FC's second goal after a darting run beyond Asish Rai. Continued to bring out five-star skills from his locker as he progressed the ball like a maestro.
Substitutes
Seiminlen Doungel - 6.5
Aidy Boothroyd’s masterful decision to take off the mischievous Boris was repaid in kind by the oncoming Len Doungel.
Harry Sawyer - 7
The towering Englishman was a like-for-like replacement for the commandeering Daniel Chima Chukwu. Scored Jamshedpur FC’s final goal in a weird albeit reassuring manner.
Ishan Pandita - 7
The super-sub helped Jamshedpur FC off the bench in trademark fashion as his shot rebounded onto Sawyer’s path, who in return netted the ball home.
ATK Mohun Bagan
Vishal Kaith - 6.5
Forced into action early on as Ritwik Das’ shot stung his gloves. Conceded three goals, for which he really can't be blamed.
Asish Rai - 6
Although he bombarded down the right flank and tried to get past markers, his defensive work was shoddy. Rai allowed Ritwik Das to outpace him on the recovery as he misjudged his momentum for Jamshedpur FC’s second goal.
Pritam Kotal - 6.5
Static and non-responsive in the build-up to the second goal as the captain was even farther behind than Rai, but made a goal-line clearance shortly before. Made a mess in the dying minutes as he was clearly incapable of handling Sawyer and Emmanuel-Thomas on his own.
Slavko Damjanovic - 6
Apart from a foul in the first half that garnered a yellow card, the Montenegrin centre-half was non-existent and had the faintest impact. Went off in the 82nd minute for Federico Gallego.
Subhasish Bose - 6.5
Strongly marked Boris and helped in the build-up as well as making the occasional run down to the sidelines to square one back for the attackers.
Glan Martins - 6
Vigilant in midfield, Glan made his presence felt as even Chima couldn’t weather his physicality but led him into the book. Went off in the 77th minute for Kiyan Nassiri to pitch in with added firepower.
Carl McHugh - 6.5
Kept things flowing in the middle of the pitch for his side and solved some defensive woes. Clashed with the likes of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in the latter stages.
Manvir Singh - 6
Rapid down the flank and led a few attacks for ATK Mohun Bagan but could not create anything worthwhile. Manvir's lack of an end product forced Ferrando to take him off for Ashique Kuruniyan in the 68th minute.
Hugo Boumous - 6.5
Ghosted in between waves of Jamshedpur FC pressure as he broke the lines more often than not with his passes and dribbles.
Liston Colaco- 5.5
Active down the left flank, initially getting released by McHugh’s swivelling crosses and combining with Dimitri Petratos and Boumous. Progressively worsened as he kept skewing his crosses wildly and didn’t really attempt any take-on.
Dimitri Petratos - 6.5
The Australian played in his usual 'False 9' role, dropping deep and creating space for the likes of Boumous, Liston, and Manvir. He lacked his usual efficiency from set-pieces however, and was unable to chain together passing moves with teammates.
Substitutes
Ashique Kuruniyan - 6.5
Somewhat revitalised the dead and droopy ATK Mohun Bagan attack with his pace and direct dribbling.
Federico Gallego - 6.5
Should have been brought on earlier as he might have been able to unlock the stubborn Jamshedpur FC defence.
Kiyan Nassiri - 6.5
The youngster was arguably ATK Mohun Bagan's most motivated player on the pitch as he was tireless in regaining possession and ventured on more than one attack.
