Manchester City secured treble with 1-0 win over Inter in UCL final
Rodri scored the winning goal
Manchester City finally win their long-awaited Champions League trophy which they have been desperate to win for years.
City have won every trophy in their history, but the only one they have yet to win was the coveted European Cup. The club has had numerous managers throughout the years, but none of them has been able to advance City even to the semifinals.
Then came the eminently pragmatic Pep Guardiola, who transformed City into an unbeatable team. However, the Sky and Blue only maintained their dominance in domestic games; they were, as usual, uncompetitive in European matches.
Guardiola refashioned this City club into one that could form their supremacy in European matches, and they started performing precisely.
In 2020–21, they appeared to have finally ended the wait as they advanced to their first-ever Champions League final. City supporters would no longer be subjected to criticism for their team's lack of a Champions League trophy.
The Citizens entered the game as the favourites, but overly optimistic pondering by the club's ex-Barcelona players led to a 1-0 loss to Chelsea and diminished their chances of winning their maiden Champions League.
However, City rebounded the following season, sweeping all opposition, and it appeared they would advance to their second consecutive Champions League final, but an outstanding comeback by Real Madrid dashed those aspirations when the club was defeated in the semifinals.
The team did not have enough confidence that they would win the Champions League this year, but the addition of Erling Haaland improved the results because of his aggressiveness, which made City more competitive.
To win the first-ever Champions League, they defeated elite teams like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and currently Inter Milan.
And as a result of their victory, they have joined Manchester United as the only other English club to have won the treble.
