Verratti has been with PSG for 11 years

It is being reported that Marco Verratti will be leaving PSG after 11 years in Paris. This news comes in as shocking for two reasons: firstly, because Verratti’s association with the club has been so long. And secondly, because Verratti had extended his contract a few months ago.

PSG’s axing of Marco Verratti looks to be part of Luis Enrque’s plan to change the face of the French outfit aimed at bringing Champions League glory to Paris for the first time. PSG have gotten rid of many of their big names in this transfer window, as it was announced that the club will be heading in a “new direction” under manager Luis Enrique.

Many of PSG’s big names have been let go in this transfer window. Neymar left for Saudi side Al-Hilal, while Lionel Messi swapped the PSG red and blue for the pink of Inter Miami in the MLS. Players like Renato Sanches, Leandro Paredes, and Xavi Simons have all been let go to facilitate Luis Enrique’s rebuild.

It is being reported that Marco Verratti is increasingly coming close to joining Qatari side Al-Arabi and will follow in the footsteps of Xavi and Raul by playing out in Qatar.

It is understood that both the team and the player have agreed on personal terms and that PSG will receive a fee of €45 million plus add-ons for the Italian.

Despite Verratti’s desire to stay in Europe, it appears that few European clubs have made approaches; only Chelsea has shown an interest. Simply put, Verratti will have to depart Paris in the same manner as Neymar, since he was compelled to join a Saudi organisation after being turned down by European clubs.
