Ranking the top five best goalkeepers to target on FPL 2023-24
Goalkeepers are perhaps one of the most fun picks when it comes to positions till you figure out the right player and sit back.
FPL, at its core, is like a mind-bending optimization puzzle wrapped in the chaos of real-life football madness. It’s a delicious concoction for fans who crave both the thrill of the game and the nerdy art of analysis. It’s a strategic showdown where you can either become a psychic predictor or a perpetual chaser.
Their returns are strongly dependent on 2 major factors- Saves & Clean Sheets which highly impact the BPS (Bonus points) as well. Fantasy managers generally start at the front when building their FPL squads for Gameweek 1, meaning the goalkeeper position is often overlooked. It’s an important position though and getting it right provides a crucial eleventh man each week. So, let’s take a look at who are the best goalkeepers to select for this coming season.
5. Nick Pope (NEW) – 5.5m
The Newcastle United player that can be a dark horse for FPL players to have is their goalkeeper, Nick Pope. Yes, Newcastle have difficult games at the start of the season, but for the price tag of 5.5, Pope might not justify this choice to many. However, Newcastle will play Villa, City, Liverpool and Brighton in the first 4 games- All Top 8 teams with good attacking threats which also opens up the bonus points scope with saves coming in.
Those important Newcastle clean sheet points might be hard to come in initial weeks but Newcastle have an element to surprise as seen under Eddie Howe last season. Pope has the ability to earn those clean sheets and the bonuses against tough opponents and he might prove to be the trump card.

4. Kepa (CHE) – 5.0m
While Kepa did emerge briefly as a strong choice for FPL last season, Lampard quickly took that away with a leaky defense. Pochettino seems to be bringing the attacking flair back but it does mean Chelsea are prone to counters more than ever. On paper, they have extremely good fixtures- Luton & Nottingham at home coupled with West Ham, and Bournemouth away.
Good coaches fix defenses first and Kepa might actually surprise many over the first 6 fixtures. Chelsea are in talks to sign Sanchez from Brighton as their backup keeper but Kepa would be their first-choice keeper until Poch have some other ideas to surprise FPL managers.

3. Alisson (LIV) – 5.5m
When looking at the player and the price point, there are many reasons why avoiding premium-price goalkeepers is a good idea. For one, your attacking options are limited (should you wish to triple up from the same club) and there’s also a good chance that they won’t be as involved from a shot-stopping point of view – simply because they are playing for a better team.
Nevertheless, Liverpool‘s number-one Alisson is still a decent pick, evidenced by his 14 clean sheets last season. Save and bonus points may be at a premium but a six-point return isn’t anything to be sniffed at. The Reds’ opening fixtures aren’t great – Chelsea, Newcastle United and Aston Villa among them – but things quickly improve and there are certainly points to be had. Liverpool might have been a shadow of their former self last season but looking at their pre-season, they might be hungry for their top-four spot.
2. Andre Onana (MUN) – 5.0m
While we await his debut for United, what we have here is a strong possibility of a mixture of possible United Clean Sheets (Last year Man United led the league with 17 clean sheets) combined with Onana’s accurate passing leading to higher BPS than their ex-keeper. He seems to be the fan’s signing of the season already but it is not as settled a choice as we feel thanks to the fixtures. United have 2-3 Clean Sheets in the first 6 games with Burnley away perhaps the decider on the same.
In the premium bracket, Manchester United’s Old Trafford form and early fixtures make Andre Onana (£5.0m) the standout pick for opening squads. The Red Devils kept a league-high 11 clean sheets at home last term and have four such fixtures in the opening seven Gameweeks. Onana also provides a cheaper route into the Man Utd defense than Luke Shaw (£5.5m), who is the third-most-popular defender with an ownership of 31 percent.
1. Aaron Ramsdale (ARS) – 5.0m
When we delve into the goalkeeper price points, the £5.0m bracket is the standout given the security of starters and the clean sheet potential they provide. Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale is a clear favorite given he kept 14 clean sheets last season, finishing inside top-five shot-stoppers for the campaign.
Ramsdale made 94 saves last season on his way to 143 points and started the season strongly as Arsenal forced their way into title contention. The Gunners have a favorable run of fixtures on paper, including three home games in their first four outings. Arsenal and Ramsdale has four matches in the opening six at the Emirates Stadium to make a fast start to the new campaign.
