Chelsea captain Reece James suffers hamstring injury
James spent the majority of last season on the sidelines due to a knee injury
Recent sources claim that Reece James, the captain of Chelsea, has sustained a new hamstring injury following a scan.
The West Londoners club’s new boss, Mauricio Pochettino, selected James to serve as skipper after Cesar Azpilicueta left for Atletico Madrid this summer.
The England international took part in his team’s 1-1 Premier League stalemate at Stamford Bridge last Sunday with Liverpool.
Then, in the 76th minute of the game against Liverpool, he was replaced, although Pochettino insisted that the reason was fatigue rather than injury. The Argentine responded, “Because he was tired,” when questioned why he removed his new captain.
According to journalist Nathan Gissing, the Cobham graduate has now sustained a new hamstring injury and will have a diagnostic later today.

The 23-year-old’s time on the sidelines is yet unknown, and the Blues’ next match is on Sunday as they go to the London Stadium to play David Moyes’ West Ham United.
Sky Italy reports that additional tests have identified a hamstring strain, and Chelsea must now wait in suspense to learn the full degree of the harm.
The 23-year-old Reece James had been limited to 24 games the previous season and did not participate in the World Cup because of a knee injury he suffered following a Champions League victory against Milan almost a year ago.
Malo Gusto stepped in for James during the final minutes of the match against Liverpool, and Pochettino expects the summer purchase from Lyon to fill in against West Ham on Sunday as he looks to earn his first meaningful victory.
At the same time, Chelsea has grudgingly decided to part with Lewis Hall after Newcastle made a £28 million offer.
The youngster had an impressive debut this past season, and while the Blues have no plan of offloading one of their most promising young players at the beginning of the summer, the offer—even though it came from a Premier League rival—has been deemed too tempting to refuse.
In addition, Michael Olise’s decision to agree to a new four-year deal with Crystal Palace has derailed Pochettino’s efforts to sign him from the Eagles.
