They have never won the MLS or the Leagues Cup, do not have a solid fan base, and their biggest claim to fame in a country where football is not even in the top three most popular sports is that they are partly owned by football legend David Beckham.

However, all of that has changed dramatically. After Lionel Messi arrived to play for Miami, he turned the soccer scene in the USA upside down. People are now excited about seeing the superstar, the number of people interested in following the football scene has increased dramatically.

Lionel Messi has generated interest unseen before in the USA. For example. – Inter Miami kit manufacturer Adidas has said that all Lionel Messi t-shirts are sold out and will remain so till October.

Lionel Messi has not only created cultural interest in sport in the US, but has also turned Miami’s fortune on the field upside down.

Before his arrival, Inter Miami were on an 11-game winless streak, they have now won 4 games on the trot. Messi has bagged seven goals in just four appearances and has made Inter Miami a serious contender for the Leagues Cup.

Before Messi’s arrival, a ticket to an Inter Miami game started at $31. Now, the lowest price for a ticket is $252, with reports suggesting that that a ticket for their game against Charlotte FC going up to $110,000.

Inter Miami tickets are being sold out within minutes of going on sale, at the moment, Inter Miami tickets are selling at an average of $487 per game, a record high for the MLS.
