Liverpool show interest in Barcelona's Franck Kessie

The Ivorian has struggled for game time under Xavi

Since arriving at Barcelona last season, Franck Kessie’s future at the Camp Nou remains uncertain. The Ivorian made 26 league appearances for the Blaugranas last season. However, in the pre-season games leading up to the start of the LaLiga season on 12th august, Kessie has not been a regular feature.

The 26-year-old has been awarded just 45 minutes of playing time across five preseason fixtures in the USA. And he was completely left on the bench in Barca’s last pre-season against AC Milan.

Speaking to the media after the AC Milan game, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez said talked about Kessie’s situation:

“Franck Kessie did not play due to a slight illness,” he said, before adding: “Regarding his future, he knows exactly what the situation is.”

It is widely believed that just after one season at the Camp Nou, he has fallen out of favour with the Barca management and is not a concretive part of manager Xavi’s plan for the coming season.

However, Franck Kessie has a considerable number of options to pursue. Italian giants Juventus have show interest in the midfielder. On top of that, Premier League team Tottenham Hotspurs have also shown interest in the midfielder. Spurs are reportedly interested in using a portion of the money they will make by offloading Harry Kane to acquire Kessie. Kessie himself has stated that he wishes to move to the Premier League.

Recently, Liverpool, who are on a crusade to acquire players to lush out their midfield which was thinned out after many of their big midfield name like Firminio, Fabhino, and captain Jordan Henderson hopped on a flight to Saudi. The Reds have already signed midfield talent in Dominik Szoboszlai from and World Cup winner Alexis Mac Alister. However, as potentially packing as their signings are, they have made just two of them.

Franck Kessie’s asking price

In their mission to acquire midfielders, Jurgen Klopp’s side has turned towards Barca’s Franck Kessie. At the moment, it is being reported that Barcelona value him at €15m.

As the LaLiga season is scheduled to start on 12th august, Kessie’s most likely destination is Tottenham. However, since the transfer window does not close until 1st September, it will be interesting to see whether Klopp manages to pull him to Anfield.
