Real Madrid predicted lineup for 2023-24 season
Los Blancos will be looking to put an underperforming season behind them
Despite sealing a consolatory Copa del Rey crown, the 2022-23 season was a bitter disappointment for Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti’s side were comfortably beaten to the LaLiga title by Clasico rivals Barcelona, while eventual treble winners Manchester City swatted them aside in the Champions League just a game from the final. With some new signings this season they will expect to give tough competition to their arch-rivals as well as they will be one of the favourites to win the Champions League this season.
Here’s how Real Madrid could line up for the 2023-24 season:
Goalkeeper- Thibaut Courtois
Undisputed no.1, Courtois remains one of the best goalkeepers in World football and will certainly be between the posts for Los Blancos this season. A consistent keeper, he possesses an excellent positional sense, good mentality, composure, strength of character, and an ability to communicate well with his defenders, he also excels in one on one situations, due to his ability to time his runs effectively when rushing out of goal to face opponents, and has even functioned as a sweeper-keeper on occasion.
An excellent shot-stopper between the posts, he has also distinguished himself for his agility and quick reflexes, in spite of his size and imposing physique.
Right-Back- Dani Carvajal
Even though his last season was full of ups and downs and there were rumours that he will be replaced this season but Carlo Ancelotti believes in him and he will surely be the first choice for this position. He will play a very crucial role in Madrid’s defence this season.
Centre-Back- Eder Militao
Forever improving since his arrival from FC Porto in 2019, the Brazilian defender is growing into his role well at the Santiago Bernabeu and, still just 25 years old, is likely to be there for the foreseeable future too. Militão is very agile and is relatively quick, though, so he can make quick recovery runs when he is on the wrong side of the ball, and he is rarely exposed by fast, mobile attackers.
He is fast enough to get back into position quickly, and he also shows good technique and turn of pace when facing up a defender who is running towards him. His performance impressed most of Madrid’s fans as he has improved a lot and will be key for the team’s defence.
Centre-Back- Antonio Rudiger
Rudiger was a major free agent coup last summer, but it felt as if his debut season was a fairly quiet one given his bombastic nature even if it didn’t disappoint. The Germany international should once again be a regular starter for Los Blancos next summer. His partnership with Militao is a fearsome one. His physical presence is very good inside the box.
Left-Back: Fran Garcia
From Marcelo to Roberto Carlos to Camacho, Real Madrid has been blessed with some stellar left-backs over the years. With Fran García, they may just have a player who can excel at the position in the short-term and long term. Garcia’s ability to find gaps with the ball is incredible as he wins over half of his take-ons, whilst his technical ability and speed help him to shift direction at ease, dragging opponents out of position and making it harder for them to drop deep and win the ball back.
His attacking instincts pay dividends in the final third, making runs towards the box and allowing his teammates to push forward with the opposing defender occupied. His performance in the pre-season matches has also impressed the coaching staff.
Defensive Midfielder- Aurélien Tchouaméni
A robust and athletic defensive midfielder, Tchouaméni is more than comfortable in driving forward with the ball into advanced positions once he wins it back, rather than passing it out like many others. His mature style of play is far beyond his years, and Tchouaméni’s match intelligence and awareness on the pitch are immediately noticeable. He didn’t play regular matches last season but this season he can be the first choice as he has impressed the coach in the pre-season very well.

Central Midfielder- Federico Valverde
Valverde’s versatility and adaptability is his biggest strength, having slotted into various roles, offering a consistent balance between attack and defence. He is capable of receiving the ball with the correct body position, almost always taking a positive touch going forward and protecting it with his body, making him a safe option in possession. He is full of stamina and can run throughout the match, his presence in the midfield will bring a lot of stability in attack and defence.
Central Midfielder- Eduardo Camavinga
Camavinga’s willingness to show for the ball is hugely impressive. He never shies away from moving to receive, dropping deep to provide quick passing options and an instant counter-pressing threat. Camavinga knows exactly which space to take his first touch into, and although he regularly receives ball-facing, his ability to open his body up using minimal touches is impressive.
His body orientation also enables him to effectively recycle possession, exchanging square passes that help to open lanes elsewhere in the build-up phase. He can be the next big thing for Madrid this season.
Central Attacking Midfielder- Jude Bellingham
The biggest signing for Madrid this season, the Englishman will have huge expectations from the fans as well as from the coaching staff. Bellingham is capable of making an impact. The most impressive thing about young Jude Bellingham is his maturity and his utter disregard for his own age. His performance in Dortmund has impressed almost every football fan and now he will have a big role to play this season as Madrid will aim to win as much title as possible.
Striker- Rodrygo
Rodrygo may not be the tallest player on the pitch, but he makes up for it with his agility and technical ability. He has a low centre of gravity that allows him to change direction quickly and make sharp turns, making it difficult for defenders to keep up with him. Madrid fans can expect him to be a proper replacement for Karim Benzema. The Brazilian has been very consistent with his performance in LaLiga as well as in the Champions League. He can score a lot of goals as his partnership with Vinicius will be something to watch out for.
Striker- Vinicius Junior
Vinicius is proving his doubters wrong. His gradual improvement over the past few campaigns has manifested into fantastic performances this year, something that is reflected in his statistics. His most obvious improvement has been in his goal-scoring. Vinicius has always been an explosive, tricky winger who gave Madrid a direct attacking threat down the wings, but in the upcoming season, we can see him play in more central positions. He will be a big threat to the opponents and can score more goals.
