ISL 2023-24: Top five players from Gameweek 1

These individuals were sensational in the opening game week of the ISL 2023-24.
Indian Super League’s latest edition is up and running. The first game week saw plenty of high-octane clashes and entertaining football. Some notable results saw defending champions Mohun Bagan start their campaign with a convincing victory over newcomers Punjab FC and Kerala Blasters winning the opening tie against Bengaluru FC in a tightly-contested affair.
Plenty of players came forward to deliver impactful performances for their respective teams. These individuals showed brilliance and helped their teams achieve positive results. Despite it being the opening gameweek of the ISL 2023-24, some of the players showed that they are already in peak condition for the rest of the season.
On that note, here are five players who performed outstandingly in the first gameweek of the Indian Super League 2023-24:
5. Parthib Gogoi

Parthib Gogoi was the pick of the Indian players who were extremely impressive in the past week. The NorthEast United forward gave a brilliant account of himself in a narrow defeat to India’s AFC Champions League representatives, Mumbai City FC.
Gogoi scored on the 31st-minute mark to bring the game to level terms after the Islanders shot into an early lead. The 20-year-old is showing incredible signs already and has tons of potential to improve even further.
4. Adrian Luna

Adrian Luna was, yet again, the driving force behind Kerala Blasters. The skipper scored the second goal for the Yellow Army after catching Gurpreet Singh Sandhu off-guard and stealing the ball off his feet, thanks to his brilliant pressing.
Apart from his goal contribution, Adrian Luna ran the midfield and fed the ball to his teammates in good positions. Clearly, Luna will be essential once again to KBFC’s success and early indications regarding his form have been positive.
3. Jorge Pereyra Diaz

Mumbai City FC secured a 2-1 win over a spirited NorthEast United which saw Jorge Pereyra Diaz score a brace. He gave the Islanders the lead on the 26th-minute mark and then scored the winning goal in the 38th minute after Parthib Gogoi had equalised for NEUFC.
Diaz is already showing his lethal nature in front of goal and his insatiable hunger for scoring. He will back himself to score more than the 11 goals he scored during the 2022-23 ISL campaign.
2. Dimitri Petratos

Dimitri Petratos was sensational in Mohun Bagan's 3-1 win over newly promoted Punjab FC. The Australian striker scored one and provided an assist in a brilliant overall performance.
Dimitri Petratos’ overall contribution makes him an essential part of the squad. His quality from set-piece situations and his crossing ability are an asset to MBSG’s attack.
1. Elsinho

Elsinho’s first Indian Super League appearance was one to savour. The Jamshedpur FC centre-back was a mountain in defence that East Bengal failed to climb. His performance was central in helping the Men of Steel secure a point owing to a goalless draw.
Elsinho made 11 clearances in the match against East Bengal FC which is tied for the second most by any JFC player in ISL with Tiri making 11 clearances in a game vs NorthEast United on 18 November 2017. A record in debut! Good job Elsinho!
