Gameweek 6 witnessed multiple moments of individual brilliances
Indian Super League (ISL) definitely delivered on the entertainment quotient in the past week. As club football takes a back seat for the forthcoming days to international football, fans of the ISL have several impressive performances to look back on.
From the Gaurs taking centre stage to the Shers nearly recording the first win of the season, the past week had several high-quality performances from foreigners and domestic players in the ISL. The individual brilliance shown by determined players was instrumental in producing a positive outcome for their respective clubs.
As another round of fixtures concludes in the Indian Super League, here is a look at the players that feature in Khel Now’s Team of the Week 6:
Formation - 4-4-2
GK - Sachin Suresh (Kerala Blasters FC)
Sachin Suresh was the hero for Kerala Blasters FC in their electrifying 2-1 win over East Bengal FC at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. The custodian was at the centre of the game’s defining moment when he saved two penalty kicks from Cleiton Silva after the referee chalked off his initial save for advancing from the goal line.
RB - Seriton Fernandes (FC Goa)
FC Goa was one of the teams that kept a clean sheet in the past round of fixtures in the ISL. Seriton Fernandes was one of the best performers for the Gaurs who did his defensive duties well. His heat map showcased a lot of movement down the right flank owing to his illustrious performance in both attack and defence.
CB - Narender Gahlot (Odisha FC)
Narender Gahlot received the nod in the heart of defence and performed exceptionally well for Odisha FC in their 1-0 win over NorthEast United FC. The centre-back helped the side in becoming only the second club to keep a clean sheet in the past week. He made five clearances during the game, keeping NEUFC attackers at bay and helping OFC secure an important win.
CB - Odei Onaindia (FC Goa)
Odei Onaindia was calm and composed for FC Goa in defence, guiding the Gaurs to an impressive 3-0 win over Chennaiyin FC away from home. The centre-back made two clearances and won five out of seven duels. His partnership with Sandesh Jhingan is shaping up to be solid.
LB - Jay Gupta (FC Goa)
Jay Gupta delivered another noteworthy performance for FC Goa, helping the club keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win. The left-back has been one of the breakthrough stars this season and has been a consistent performer for the Gaurs. He also made an assist for Boris Thangjam’s goal in the win against the Marina Machans.
CM - Apuia (Mumbai City FC)
Lalengmawia Ralte (Apuia) had another solid performance in the midfield for Mumbai City FC. His work rate and technical brilliance were crucial in helping the side record a comeback 2-1 win over Punjab FC. He had 72 touches of the ball, took three shots on goal and finished the game with four key passes.
CM - Rowllin Borges (FC Goa)
Rowllin Borges had one of his best performances in the ISL which helped FC Goa demolish Chennaiyin FC and reach the top of the league table. The midfielder scored a brilliant goal from long range and kept on the heels of CFC midfielders for the whole evening.
RW - Juan Mera (Punjab FC)
Juan Mera was the star performer for Punjab FC in their 1-1 draw with Hyderabad FC. The attacking midfielder showed intent and hunger and almost took the club to its first win of the season. He scored in the 82nd minute but could not see his team win three points.
LW - Udanta Singh (FC Goa)
Udanta Singh lost his place in the Gaurs’ starting lineup but that did not let it faze him. He made an instant impact after coming on as a substitute in the game against Chennaiyin FC and scored FC Goa’s third goal of the game. The long-range effort by the former BFC midfielder was hit with a lot of power and ferocity.
ST - Madih Talal (Punjab FC)
Madih Talal had a good outing against Hyderabad FC in the 1-1 draw for Punjab FC. The forward provided the assist for Juan Mera’s goal after some sublime individual work. He took five attempts on goal and finished the game with a 90% pass success rate. His role in PFC’s attacking build-up was immense.
ST - Diego Mauricio (Odisha FC)
Diego Mauricio was once again the difference-maker for Odisha FC. The striker scored the winning goal in the 1-0 win over NorthEast United FC by latching on to a poor pass from Mirshad Michu. His goal tally for the season already stands at three and he looks hungry for more.
