ISL resumed this week after a three week halt due to international break.

The Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 returned to action with its Gameweek 7 after a three week halt due to the international break. Gameweek 7 saw eight teams go up against each other in four matches.

Two games ended in a 1-1 draw while the other two games saw two teams wrap up 1-0 victories. In total six goals were scored across four matches in Gameweek 7. On that note, let us take a look at the talking points from the week gone by.

The first match of this gameweek saw East Bengal take a trip to the Southern coast to face off against Chennaiyin FC. The game began with an own goal by Ayush Adhikari and gave East Bengal an early lead. Chennaiyin FC continued to pile up the pressure upon the visitors, but failed to do so on every single opportunity until the 86th minute.

Ninthoi came to his side’s rescue and restored parity for the Marina Machans with his first goal for the club. Although East Bengal tried their best to win the game, Chennaiyin FC did pretty well to hold on to them despite going down to 10-men.

Kerala Blasters continue to fly high

In the second match of Gameweek 7, Kerala Blasters hosted their former foes Hyderabad FC at home. The Blasters were the clear favourites coming into the game given the kind of season they have had.

Hyderabad FC on the other hand are undergoing a very contrasting faith as nothing has gone their way this season. And the same happened in Kochi as the Blasters wrapped up a fine 1-0 win, thanks to a late first half goal by Milos Drincic. With this win, Kerala Blasters are now level on points with table toppers FC Goa.

FC Goa’s invincible run continues

What a start to life it has been for FC Goa under Manolo Marquez. The Gaurs have been in very fine form this season and the same was on display in their match against Jamshedpur FC. Jamshedpur FC had more of the ball, but FC Goa still managed to pull off a 1-0 win.

It was their fifth win of the season and their third consecutive win at home this season. They are certainly one of the best teams this season. FC Goa are yet to lose a game this season and currently find themselves at the top of the summit with 16 points to their name.
