Ed Woodward finds new job after Manchester United exit

Ed Woodward is set to join sports firm Sentient Sports

Eighteen months after leaving Old Trafford, former Manchester United CEO Ed Woodward has already secured his next position.

During his ten-year tenure at Manchester United between 2012 and 2022, Ed Woodward was a controversial figure. Supporters frequently criticised his choices in player acquisition and charged him with putting the team’s off-field success less important than its on-field performance.

The 52-year-old is getting ready for a new chapter in his life after announcing that he will be joining the artificial intelligence sports company Sentient Sports in April 2022.

Woodward has joined the organisation as a Non-Executive Board Member and Strategic Advisor. The company’s mission is to change sports by utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to generate content and data.

He described the company as having “tremendous potential” and described the owner as a “cutting edge” person in sports.

Established in 2020, Sentient Sports is a comparatively fresh firm that aims to disrupt the player acquisition processes for sports teams through the integration of simulation, risk assurance, and proactive statistics.

It says its AI models are causing a “paradigm shift in the way sports stakeholders engage and operate with data” and that it has “earned the trust” of over 30 professional clubs, including the Premier League.

‘I am excited to be joining the SentientSports board and working alongside Ryan [Beal, co-founder] and the team.

‘The blend of sports and AI technology at SentientSports is truly cutting-edge. With some of the industry’s leading AI talents involved, I see tremendous potential for innovation and expanding global digital fanbases.

‘I’m thrilled to be part of such a dynamic company with the potential to revolutionise the global digital sports landscape.’
