The USMNT team are already halfway into the semi-finals

The second leg tie of the quarter-finals between the Trinidad and Tobago national football team and the United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT) will be played at Hasely Crawford Stadium. Head coach Angus Eve has a tough ask for his team to turn around a game which sees USMNT already 3-0 up on aggregate.

The defending champions of the CONCACAF Nations League A will be pleased with a solid 3-0 result from the first leg at home. Now with 3 goals ahead on aggregate, the away trip shouldn’t be much of a threat. The away team should however remain focussed even if they seem halfway there into the semi-finals.

Kick-Off:

Tuesday, 21 November 2023 at 12:00 AM UK (5:30 AM IST)

Location: Hasely Crawford Stadium

Form

Trinidad and Tobago (in all competitions): L-L-W-W-W

USA (in all competitions): W-W-L-W-W

Players to Watch

Ryan Telfer (Trinidad and Tobago)

For the national football team of Trinidad and Tobago, the guy wearing the number 7 jersey can cause trouble for the visitors. Ryan Telfer plays in the second tier of soccer level in the United States at Miami FC. In the 4 Group A games Telfer had played in the CONCACAF Nations League A, the player has a goal and an assist. Telfer was taken off in halftime of the quarter-finals after the coach decided to go defensive following going down to 10 men.

Giovanni Reyna (USA)

Reyna
Reyna will be the key star against Trinidad and Tobago

With former Borussia Dortmund man Christian Pulisic sidelined, the current Dortmund and USMNT athlete should be the key star against Trinidad and Tobago. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is in fine form. After playing a full 90 minutes, Giovanni Reyna has already struck once and will be looking for more in the second-leg quarter-final tie.

Match Facts

  • Trinidad and Tobago are on an unbeaten run of 6 home games in all competitions
  • USA have already put half of the nails in the coffin of the home side by winning 3-0 in the last bout
  • In their last 4 meetings, the USA side have won all scoring 22 goals in the process and without conceding even once

Injury & Team News

In the 3-0 humbling defeat, coach Angus Eve will be gutted with the sending off of Noah Powder. Powder collected two yellow cards before even 40 minutes of the game was played. Before Powder was sent off the game was still 0-0. The 10-man surely found it hard to contain the USA powerhouse in the final 10 minutes of the game. Now Powder will be suspended for this one.

The USMNT will be pleased with a 3-0 aggregate lead. Going into the second leg, two key players will be unable to participate in this one. Both Timothy Weah and Christian Pulisic are out with thigh injuries. A setback that should see them recover from by late November.

Match Prediction for Trinidad and Tobago vs USA

The winners of the CONCACAF Nations League A quarter-finals will automatically qualify to participate in the 2024 Copa América. With USMNT already leading 3-0 on aggregate, it will be a very tough call to not hold them as favourites to go through.

Prediction: Trinidad and Tobago 1-4 USA
