I want to keep Douglas Luiz & think he’s happy with us, says Unai Emery amid Arsenal links

Arsenal have made Douglas Luiz their priority signing
In light of rumours that Manchester City are considering making a £60 million approach for Douglas Luiz, an Aston Villa midfielder, Edu, the sports director of Arsenal, was recently warned that he would not be granted free reign to recruit the player in January.
The Brazilian midfielder was originally connected to Arsenal in the summer of 2022 after Villa rejected two proposals from the Gunners, the second of which exceeded £25 million.
Subsequently, the demand for elite midfield players has skyrocketed, with the acquisitions of Declan Rice, Moises Caicedo, and Enzo Fernandes surpassing the £100 million threshold.
However, Emery has fended off interest from big giants of the Premier League and claimed:
“Douglas is playing very good and his commitment is amazing. I want him here I am very happy with him and I want to keep him, of course. I think he’s happy with us too”.

Luiz has since signed a new contract with Aston Villa and developed into a key member of Unai Emery’s progressive and resurgent team, so it becomes increasingly unlikely that they will be able to pry him away.
Nevertheless, Arsenal keeps an eye on the player’s development and still finds him to be highly desirable. Due to Mikel Arteta and Edu’s intense desire to improve their midfield, the Gunners are being heavily linked to a new attempt to recruit him.
In light of this, it was reported last week that Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, and Jorginho would all be let go from Arsenal and that the club’s executives were putting together a four-man list of potential replacements.
Luiz is among those at the top of Arsenal’s want list, and the club is reportedly considering a £60 million raid on Villa in an attempt to lure the 25-year-old north to London and aid the present Premier League leaders in unseating three-time champions Manchester City.
But Manchester City has also expressed interest in the matter.
