Aston Villa are second in the Premier League

Unai Emery on Aston Villa plans for January: “One or two players could leave. Maybe. It’s not clear…”.

“And if we are trying to get someone, it is because we are very convinced they will increase our level in squad. And it’s not clear in January we are going to get it”.

Aston Villa have the chance to bolster Unai Emery’s team following an incredible first half of the season as the team aims for Champions League qualification and Europa Conference League triumph come May.

Moussa Diaby and Youri Tielemans’ summer signings have raised the calibre of Emery’s squad, while Pau Torres has completely changed the way his team plays.

On loan, Nicolo Zaniolo and Clement Lenglet have also shown to be valuable signings, and Villa is willing to support its head coach once more during this window.

Emery lobbied hard for Alex Moreno to join in January of last year, and the club’s recruitment team chose Jhon Duran. After delaying his plans to replace Danny Ings, who left for West Ham, Emery intended to bring in another seasoned centre-forward to his team in the summer.

The 19-year-old first signed with the League One team in January of last year, and the summer saw the club prolong his stay. He has, nevertheless, found it difficult to establish himself under new manager Matt Taylor.

Villa is reportedly considering his next loan option and wants the gifted midfield player to have the “most exposure,” according to The Athletic. Aberdeen and Sunderland have reportedly expressed “strong interest” in Bogarde.
