Why Manchester United could be banned from Champions League next season?

Red Devils are currently last in 2023-24 UCL group stage
The £1.25 billion purchase of a 25% share in Manchester United by Sir Jim Ratcliffe is much awaited by supporters hoping for a change of authority away from the Glazer family. However, Manchester United’s hopes of competing in Europe may unintentionally be jeopardised by this takeover.
Ratcliffe, who already owns the French team Nice, may find it difficult for Manchester United to advance in Europe as a result of his multiple control.
It is against UEFA’s “multi-club ownership” laws for one organisation to be in charge of or exert control over any additional club participating in a competition.
Nice are currently leading Ligue 1 and is only one point behind PSG. They are playing well right now. Manchester United would have to match or better their league standing if they continue to place in the highest four in order to qualify for the Champions League. Manchester United would also be disqualified from the Europa League if Nice finished fourth.

Manchester United’s chances of playing in Europe are getting slimmer. In order to get straight admission to the Europa Conference League, they would need to go for a sixth-place result in the Premier League and hope that either Liverpool or Newcastle will take the Carabao Cup.
The success of Nice in the Champions League final play-off round and potential relegation to the Europa League are prerequisites for this scenario.
“Control” is defined by UEFA’s regulations as having the ability to firmly influence a club’s making choices.
Ratcliffe has had an impact since, as chairman and CEO of Ineos, he has stated that he intends to supervise Manchester United’s athletic department.
If two clubs with the same ownership are eligible for European competitions, merely one of them may go unless both of them are eligible for the Conference League and the Champions League directly. The club with the greater domestic ranking has precedence.
A difficult obstacle may stand in the way of Manchester United’s hopes of qualifying for Europe. The team is presently sixth in the Premier League following a combination of early-season setbacks and late successes.
