Odisha FC are preparing to face Hyderabad FC on the 17th of December at the prestigious Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. This will mark the first clash between the two teams in the current season.
Looking at the performances of both teams, it is evident that Odisha FC will enter the match as the favorites. This is not only because they will be playing in their home ground but also because they are currently placed at the fifth position in the ISL table with 14 points from eight games. On the other hand, Hyderabad FC is at the bottom of the table with just four points from nine games and also, without a win.
A day prior to the match, Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera and player Narender Gahlot displayed their unwavering optimism regarding the Hyderabad FC game. Excerpts are below:
Need of points on table
Although Odisha FC are placed at a commendable position in the points table, they will surely look to better their tally by a win in the next match. Sergio Lobera said, “We aim to secure the crucial points and maintain our winning streak in this upcoming match. We are eagerly anticipating this moment. I believe our players possess immense potential to improve their current standing.”
About the opponent
Hyderabad FC are yet to secure a victory this season, however, they cannot be underestimated. Even the tactician emphasized the need to exercise caution when facing such an opponent. He stated, “We must exercise caution when facing these types of games, as a strong grasp of classification is crucial. The opponent’s potential is formidable, which poses a considerable challenge. Defending against them is no easy task.”
“I believe that in addition to their positive aspects, they possess talented individuals and exhibit great proficiency in the game. Hence, I am of the opinion that we can capitalize on this situation and make an endeavor to secure a victory in the match,” Narender added.
Need of regular improvement
A victory should not deter Odisha from acquiring new skills and valuable insights from the matches. Coach Sergio Lobera shared his perspective, emphasizing the significance of continual growth, which enables them to enhance their performance in every single game. He stated, “When we are victorious, it is not solely a cause for celebration. There are numerous areas that demand improvement. Similarly, when we face defeat, it is not entirely a negative occurrence. We must strive to strike a balance, if feasible. We ought to remain faithful to our style of play throughout the match.”
“At times, during the course of the game, while attempting to score or safeguard the result, we may find ourselves without possession of the ball, granting our opponents opportunities to play and defend. This is an aspect that necessitates improvement since it is vital to remain loyal until the very end of the game and effectively manage the situation even when facing defeat,” he added further.
