Sergio Lobera also shed light on Odisha FC’s hectic schedule.
Odisha FC secured their sixth victory in the ongoing ISL campaign by defeating Punjab FC 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday. This result extended the Juggernauts’ undefeated streak to seven consecutive matches this year (ISL), boosting their confidence and positioning them third in the points table.
Roy Krishna was the sole goal-scorer in the match, receiving an assist from Isak Vanlalruatfela in the 21st minute of the game. This goal brought Roy’s goal tally to five in the current league season.
The post-match press conference was attended by the head coach of Odisha FC, Sergio Lobera, who articulated his thoughts regarding the match.
On the game
Although Odisha FC emerged victorious in the match, Punjab FC delivered an intriguing performance in the latter half of the game. Coach Sergio Lobera said, “I think we played very well in the first half. In the first 45 minutes, our performance was very good. We kept the possession of the ball, dominated the game and generated some chances. In the second half, we suffered a little bit because Punjab are a brave team, they tried to play attacking football.”
Odisha FC earning clean-sheets
Including one game from the AFC Cup, Odisha FC have achieved a clean-sheet in their last four consecutive matches, establishing a new record for the club. When asked about the achievement, Sergio Lobera replied, “I am happy because it’s a new record. But we need to work to try to find the balance in the team. Now we are just more balanced on the defensive terms.”
“Also, we are playing a lot of games in a short period of time. We have two days now before playing against Jamshedpur FC. It’s not easy for the players, but still they are doing an amazing job and putting in brilliant effort in the games. I’m proud of my players for getting points like today,” he added.
