Manchester United duo Rashford & Shaw fit to play against Liverpool; Maguire & Martial ruled out, confirms Erik ten Hag
Erik ten Hag is in dilemma over captaincy role vs Liverpool
Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial will be sidelined for Manchester United’s trip to Liverpool, but Erik ten Hag anticipates being able to rely on both Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw.
The Red Devils were eliminated from Europe as a whole after losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night, which was compounded by Copenhagen’s victory against Galatasaray.
Another setback came when Shaw, who has only recently returned from injury, was replaced at halftime after hobbling through the Old Trafford tunnel. In form center-back Maguire was pulled off with a groyne injury shortly before halftime.
Rashford and Martial’s availability has also worried United, as the two missed the Bayern loss due to illness.

Ten Hag has now revealed that Shaw has recovered far more quickly than anticipated and that Rashford has overcome his illness. This will be a major boost for United when the two play against Liverpool.
During his Friday pre-game press conference, Ten Hag stated:
‘Harry will not be available for the coming games, but we don’t think it’s long term. Luke Shaw trained this morning, so we think he’s available for Sunday. Marcus Rashford will be back, Martial not.’
‘No, we will put out a team that can challenge and we’ll prepare them in the best way we can. We are confident we can put out a team that can win.’
He continued: ‘I haven’t seen last season we were scared there. It was a bad experience, but it’s not similar, you start again.
United is missing suspended captain Bruno Fernandes as well as a number of other injured players after losing 7-0 at Anfield the previous season, but Ten Hag is confident his thinly manned team will overcome the wounds from that crushing defeat and win.
