Allison return to training & Klopp provides update on signing new cb in January: Liverpool latest news
Alisson Becker has returned to training despite fears of being sidelined for a few matches
Any fresh recruit that Liverpool signs in January “must be the right player” for their team, according to Jurgen Klopp.
In the press conference that followed on Friday, in advance of the Reds’ match against Crystal Palace tomorrow, he was asked if the team would want to add a centre-back during the transfer period that occurs next month, given Joel Matip’s injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.
The 56-year-old stated that he is happy with his versatility in middle defence as soon as there are no further injuries and that acquiring players is not as easy as selectively sampling them from other teams at random.
Klopp stated (via Liverpool Echo): “You always talk about transfers like it is the easiest thing in the world. They all cost money. It must be the right player. We still have four centre-backs.

Tell me a club which wants to sell a top, top centre-half. Tell me one. “Is it now perfect? As long as we can go with those four [centre-backs], yes. If not, then it will be a bit more tricky with the amount of games coming up. It was never wonderland when you bring a world-class centre-back until the other one is fit again.
On the one hand, it makes sense that Klopp would like to avoid undermining the important players in his existing Liverpool team by remaining vague about January acquisitions for particular positions—at least in public.
Alisson Becker, the goalie for Liverpool, has resumed full training in advance of Saturday’s match at Crystal Palace.
The Brazil international hurt his hamstring at the conclusion of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City two weeks ago, and he has been sidelined the last three games.
Allison returns to training
Later Klopp also revealed Alisson has returned to training and said:
“Alisson looks good,” manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday. “I don’t know if good enough now for tomorrow. I have to check that with the coaches and the medical department and with Ali of course.”
On the other hand, Reds supporters have every right to believe that we might require a new center-back come next month, especially if we are left without any other options in that area of the field. It’s not at all unlikely that Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate, given their respective injury histories, will accompany Matip in the rehabilitation area.
But in private, he might be whispering to Jorg Schmadtke to give priority to centre-back recruitment when the chance arises in January. Given the number of players who are already out of the lineup this season, Liverpool cannot afford to be careless with their squad depth.
