Bayer Leverkusen, led by Xabi Alonso, have made football history in Germany by being the first side to go unbeaten in first 25 games of a season.
With a 4-0 thumping of Bochum, Bayer Leverkusen solidified first place in the standings and established an all-time high for games undefeated. Patrik Schick marked his first Bundesliga debut of the year with a pair of goals on Wednesday.
Leverkusen broke the German mark of 24 games without a loss set at the beginning of the 1982–83 campaign by extending their unbeaten start to 25 games throughout all competitions. Before a 2-1 defeat to Hertha Berlin during the German Cup third round, Hamburg’s record at the time was 14 victories and 10 draws.
Since the start of the time of year, Leverkusen has dominated with 22 wins and three ties.

Prior to the break, the team’s victory over Bochum put them four points ahead of Bayern Munich, the 11-time reigning winner, even though Bayern still has a game in hand.
League rivals Bayern recorded a 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg was secured by goals from Harry Kane (his 21st goal of the year) and Jamal Musiala (in his 100th Bundesliga game for Bayern).
For the very first time in a Bundesliga match this campaign, Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso started Schick instead of Victor Boniface, and the decision paid off as the Czech striker scored three goals in the first half.
About an hour in, Schick scored the first goal with a penalty, added another two minutes later from an assist by Jeremie Frimpong, and scored the third from Álex Grimaldo’s corner.
After replacing Schick in the 67th minute, Boniface—who Leverkusen will have to play absent when Nigeria competes at the African Cup of Nations next month—scored his 10th league goal of the year two minutes later.
