Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten so far in the Bundesliga

In the same vein as Borussia Dortmund last season, Bayer Leverkusen are battling Bayern Munich for the title, and for the first time, there seems to be a team that goes toe to toe with Bayern. The club has been transformed by Xabi Alonso since he arrived last season and is one of the most exciting teams in Europe this season. With 11 wins and one draw from 12 matches to date, Bayer Leverkusen are currently at the top of the Bundesliga. With two points clear of Bayern Munich, they need to maintain their lead.

In the 2023-24 season, Dortmund looked like they would be going all guns blazing after bottled up the Bundesliga last season, but that hasn’t been their story. Their current position is fourth in the table, which looks good from outside, but everyone knows they have the pedigree for more. The scoring of goals which was their strength last season is one that has proven problematic so far. Their star player Sebastian Haller has not even scored a single goal this season.

Player to Watch

Julian Brandt (Borussia Dortmund)

Even though his name does not appear in headlines, Julian Brandt has been a pillar of Borussia Dortmund in tough times for many years. Last season, he scored nine goals and provided eight assists which was a great number, but so far, we haven’t even reached midway but Brandt has scored four goals and provided five assists. He is the creative force of the team.

Alex Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen)

Despite being linked with a move to Barcelona, Alex Grimaldo joined Bayer Leverkusen, surprising everyone. The Spanish left-back has backed up his move with an impeccable form so far. Even though Grimaldo is a natural left-back, he has adapted well to a more attacking role. So far, he has scored seven goals and provided four assists.
