Bryan Mbeumo doubtful for Sheffield clash due to ankle injury
Toney’s absence has seen Bryan Mbeumo dominating the scoring sheet for the Bees
Brentford had a severe blow when the limping Bryan Mbeumo was carted off the pitch following a collision with Gross that injured his right ankle.
The Bees manager later provided an update on Mbeumo’s injury and said: ‘We don’t really know [how bad it is] – he rolled his ankle. Of course, we will assess it in the morning (Thursday) and see how bad it is.’
Brighton defeated Brentford 2-1 to earn their first Premier League home triumph since September.
Before Bryan Mbeumo, who was eventually forced off the pitch due to injury, scored the first goal via the penalty spot (27) following Jan Paul van Hecke’s drag down of Vitaly Janelt, there had been little to separate the two teams.
But just four minutes afterwards, Pascal Gross’s thunderous strike (31) from the fringe of the box into the bottom corner gave Brighton a response.

Shortly afterwards Jack Hinshelwood stopped Yoane Wissa’s goalbound attempt on the goal range, and Brighton won. With his debut professional goal, the full-back came up at the opposing side and poked home Gross’ enticing cross to secure all three points.
Following the victory, Roberto De Zerbi’s team, who has only won twice in the league since September, moves up to eighth place.
However, the Seagulls are currently one point below Newcastle in seventh place. Brentford, who lost the opportunity to tie Brighton for points, remains in eleventh place.
Thomas Frank’s team was successful in their tactic as Brentford attempted to equal Brighton by fielding a back four instead of their usual three-man defence while playing away from home.
After making an incredible run into the area, Van Hecke hauled down Bees skipper Janelt, and Mbeumo calmly sent Jason Steele in the wrong direction to score the bottom middle corner from 12 yards.
