Deniz Undav in contention for Euro 2024 spot for Nagelsmann's Germany
Germany will host 2024 Euros next year
Deniz Undav could be called up to the German national team after maintaining his strong play against Werder Bremen.
Julian Nagelsmann, the head coach of Germany, plans to pick him Undav in March if the 27-year-old maintains his current level of play until the international break in March. The VfB Stuttgart striker and the head coach of Germany have previously spoken.
Undav may elect to transfer teams, though, if Germany keeps delaying calling up the striker. He is also qualified to represent Turkey internationally.
Undav has made 11 appearances for Stuttgart since joining the team on loan in the summer, netting nine goals and providing one assist. Undav was supposed to be Sehrou Guirassy’s backup at first, but Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß was obliged to play both attackers as an attacking pair because of their respective forms, and it succeeded against Bremen.

Stuttgart does now have a buy option in Undav’s loan acceptance, valued at about €12 million, but they will only be able to afford it if they make it into the Champions League, which is looking more and more likely.
Part of Undav’s motivation for returning to Germany in the summer of 2023 came from his ambition to compete for his nation at Euro 2024. Undav is a football player in his prime because he has never represented his country, not even at the youth level, and his objectives have spoken loudly enough for him.
Playing overseas, however, makes it more difficult to register on the German coach’s radar. For this reason, participating in and, more significantly, scoring goals in the Bundesliga, is the most straightforward path to inclusion.
As a target man, he may command the attack and hold the ball up for colleagues. He can also be the target of precise deliveries to head in goal.
