Kalvin Phillips has barely played for City since joining them last summer

According to reports, Manchester City requested a £7.5 million loan fee from Everton in the summer to acquire Kalvin Phillips, an underperforming midfield player.

By the time he leaves City, the English midfielder’s impact will presumably be virtually unnoticeable. The £42 million they spent Leeds for him last summer is probably all that will stick in people’s memories.

Less than 600 minutes were played by Phillips for his new team this past season, and two of his four appearances came as the Premier League title was being decided.

This season, he has experienced a similar outcome. The midfield player has played 126 minutes in the Champions League and 89 minutes in the Premier League.

As expected, he has only made one start this season, in the European competition’s championship final group match, when it had been certain that City would advance; Phillips did net his first goal in that encounter.

It was recently disclosed by Pep Guardiola that he “struggles to see” the midfielder in his team.He is unlikely to remain on the City bench for eternity because there is interest in him.

If Everton had approached Phillips in the summer, he could have been let to leave on loan. The midfield player was interested in going on loan to the Toffees.

But City insisted on receiving his entire salary in addition to a £7.5 million loan fee. They withdrew because Sean Dyche’s side could not meet the standards.

Phillips was not a big fan of the notion of moving to Goodison Park in the first place. Although sources do not claim that City asked anything from Newcastle during the loan negotiations, the fact that they wanted a sizeable payment from Everton for the loan could be a hint of things to come.
