The duo will be unavailable for multiple game weeks due to international duty.

Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) and Son Heung-min (£9.8m) are two of the hottest properties in the ongoing Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season. Both individuals are the leading point-getters in the 2023-24 FPL after GW 20 with 156 and 136 points respectively.

However, they will now be reporting for international duty and missing club football as a consequence. Mohamed Salah will be occupied with Egypt in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) while Son Heung-min will be leading South Korea in the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar

This gives FPL managers a huge headache in terms of player selection. They will be looking at alternatives for the duo but thankfully, there are plenty of options that can be considered. As FPL managers get their thinking caps on, here are three alternatives each for Salah and Son Heung-min in the Fantasy Premier League:

Replacements for Mohamed Salah in FPL

Bukayo Saka (£9.0m)

Bukayo Saka is the fourth-highest-scoring midfielder in the ongoing Fantasy Premier League season after GW 20 with 107 points. The Arsenal attacker has favourable upcoming fixtures against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest where he can get attacking returns for FPL managers willing to put their faith in him.

Richarlison (£6.9m)

Richarlison’s road to redemption has been a joy to watch for Tottenham Hotspur fans and his FPL managers. He has scored five goals in his last five Premier League outings. The FPL managers who do not have him in their squads can make use of his rich form until Salah is unavailable for selection.

Erling Haaland (£13.9m)

A move back to Erling Haaland, as he recovers from a recent injury, will be a sensible move and a popular one as well. Upcoming fixtures against Burnley and Brentford can see the Norwegian forward adding more goals to his tally of 14 for the season.

Replacements for Son Heung-min

Cole Palmer (£5.6m)

Cole Palmer is the most in-form Chelsea player and the club has favourable fixtures considering the FDR (Fixture Difficulty Rating) parameter. The Blues face Fulham, Wolves and Crystal Palace in three of their five matches which can see Palmer adding to his 92 points in the FPL 2023-24.

Alejandro Garnacho (£4.8m)

Alejandro Garnacho can be a good option to free up some budget and bring in players like Erling Haaland (£13.9m) or Bukayo Saka (£9.0m) in other positions. The Manchester United winger scored a brace against Aston Villa recently and has taken 24 shots on goal in the last six game weeks, third highest in the league behind Salah and Son.

Phil Foden (£7.8m)

Phil Foden emerges as a brilliant option for FPL managers looking to double down on Manchester City attackers. He has 96 points in FPL already this season and favourable upcoming fixtures against Burnley, Brentford and Everton make him a desirable option. The Englishman has five goals and six assists in the league and is poised to record more attacking returns.
